About Us
SURF Internet Education Centre was formed in 1996 with the mission of
promoting the use of Information Technologies and the Internet in
Northern Cyprus, and to provide education to private individuals as
well as organisations and companies regarding the use of these
technologies.
Since our formation, we have been providing free computer and Internet
courses, plus free Internet access to underprivileged Turkish Cypriot
K12 students at our offices in Girne. These charitable functions are
funded by individual donations and income generated from educational
courses and other commercial activities.
In 1999, SURF Internet Education Centre formed Locators Online - an
online community of volunteers who help loved-ones communicate with
each other during natural disasters. Locators Online is now an
official United Nations Volunteers and NetAid.org Partner
Organisation.
In 2000, SURF Internet Education Centre formed SURF Internet Services
- working under the trade name sunnycyprus.net, in order to provide
regular land-line Internet access services. Within a few years, the
deterioration of the telecommunications infrastructure caused
sunnycyprus.net to look at different Internet service delivery
options. After careful consideration and investment, wireless
technologies were chosen as our new communication platform, as it gave
us the capability of providing a service that is controlled 99% by our
own proprietary hardware and software. In February 2002 our company
became the first Wireless Internet Service Provider on the island to
provide connections aimed at home users. We have been and are still
dedicated to bringing high speed Internet services to North Cyprus.
Our infrastructure and equipment is perfectly suited for providing
wireless and wired solutions to businesses and homes alike.
With Asynchronous Digital Line technology arriving in
Northern Cyprus, SURF Internet services began providing wired ADSL
based solutions for private and business users in January 2008. With
our continued success as a Broadband ISP, we no longer offer dial-up
Internet services commercially. |
